Reviews for Whitney I Knew

Library Journal Reviews 2013 March #2

Singer and family friend Winans presents a loving and intimate portrait of the late Whitney Houston. The book is as much a meditation on Houston's life as a straightforward biography. Winans insightfully reflects on fame, Houston's gift, and the bond they shared. He reminds listeners of the loving, silly, and struggling person behind the glittering fame. Winans is a gospel artist, and the book has some religious passages. He performs the material himself, with warmth and sincerity. VERDICT Highly recommended to fans of Houston who are looking for a generous and intimate portrayal.--Mark Swails, Johnson Cty. Community Coll., Overland Park, KS
