Reviews for Breath of Iron

Library Journal Reviews 2013 August #1

Abducted and whisked off to an airship by Gavin MacRae, the pirate lover she'd broken off with years earlier, Evelyn Stone, one of the top surgeons in the Wardens of the Realm (W.O.R), is stunned to find she has been brought to attend to Mac's seriously wounded new wife. Yet all is not as it seems, and the feelings between Mac and Evie haven't abated in spite of their distance--or their loyalties. VERDICT A pair of former lovers reconnect and must deal with old feelings and present realities in this emotionally intense, action-and-violence-packed adventure that will draw readers into a fantastic steampunk world. Cross (Touch of Steel) lives in Connecticut.

Publishers Weekly Reviews 2013 June #4

In her third steampunk romance (after Touch of Steel), Cross reunites a surgeon working for the Wardens of the Realm with her one true love, a spy who turned sky pirate after she saved his life and left him. Gavin "Mac" MacRae kidnaps Dr. Evelyn Stone and takes her aboard his airship to care for Imogen, a badly injured woman he introduces as his wife. She's actually a spy with important information. Mac's plan to get Imogen back to safety in London is hampered by a traitor on board and a vengeful pirate who forces the ship down over Frankfurt. An attack by a lab-created beast and some reanimation of the dead further heighten the adventure. Evie and Mac's sensual and exciting romantic reunion is threatened more by her fear than his hurt or the (never explained) false marriage to Imogen. (Aug.)
