Chet Gecko, elementary-school private eye, tackles a stolen goods case in the thirteenth chapter book in the series. Chet's little sister tearfully enlists Chet's help in recovering her mother's pearl necklace, which disappeared from her classroom after show-and-tell. When a watch, a tiara, and two library computers are also stolen, Chet launches an investigation. In the climax at the school fair, he's squeezed by a boa constrictor and, even worse for the Bozo-phobic gecko, threatened by clowns. The colorful first-person narration offers young mystery fans wry wit, vivid similes, and a taste of noir. Copyright 2007 Booklist Reviews.
